Can anyone recommend a website or other resource that provides reviews/discussions of fashion doll lines?

I've found some good blogs that discuss new dolls as they become available (The Doll Observer, Collecting Fashion Dolls, Dolldom, Dolly Daily, DollyPanic!, The Fashion Doll Chronicles, Fashion Doll Review, et al.), and they are very enjoyable. However, what I would like to read is something that discusses an entire line of fashion dolls (Sybarites, Fashion Royalty, Numina, Ficon, JAMIEshow, Alexandria Fairchild Ford, Barbie, Urban Vita, the various Tonner and Doug James doll lines, etc.), and preferably compare/contrast with other lines.

The objective is to learn what lines are available, their strengths and weaknesses, recommended dolls from each line, and what to look out for.

I'm new to the "other than Barbie" world of collecting dolls and have managed to pick up a few of the different dolls, but I'd still benefit from a more general education on them all. Any tips would be appreciated.

  • Oh, Troy, when you, if you, find such a site please let me know... I've been searching and like you I find bits and pieces; I can only add to your list of sites.  I've been collecting outside the Barbie world for the last 8 or 9 months and it's been a daunting task searching the internet for every bit of info.  And, to top it off, I'm a Dr. Frankendollie and I want a perfect (to me) doll.  I've spent hours searching out specific dolls, their fashions, the details, secondary markets and blogs trying to get enough information to make purchases.

The problem is the information is all so subjective... what one doll collector frowns on is what I'm looking for... for example, I'm very fond of the Tonner Deja Vu but she's gotten some horrible reviews for her open-mouthed-struck-with-a-2x4 look and her splayed hands.  I don't think we'll find that perfect site and will always have to be jumping back and forth and searching based on our own tastes.

Well, at least until Simon writes that book!!!  But, I'm all for the conversation about dolls... I'm more than willing to share what I've learned and anxious to learn more.

    Hi Troy,

Have you looked at the About Dolls page? It's quite a general doll page but there are some good articles on manufacturers and doll lines.

One day I will write a book about fashion dolls that highlights a lot of what you are looking for. If only I could get past the procrastination stage LOL!
