Hey doll collectors!

I am new to this website & I am trying to learn more about doll collecting & also to get the chance to talk to some doll collectors. I do not have my own collection at this time but I do have a few questions about you & your collection.

Where do you usually shop for your dolls?

How long have you been collecting dolls?

Do you display your collection? How?

Do you think your collection is valuable?

Anything else about doll collecting you'd like to share?

thanks for the information!

I love that your dolls have such a sentimental value to you. I played with Barbies my whole youth and unfortunately I gave them away to a distant family friend. I wish I would have kept them! I still have a few of my collectors edition Barbies that I never played with when I was younger (so hard not to open when you are a kid!) Thanks for your feedback, definitely check out my new post, it's a casting call for Doll Collectors for a new show called Master Collectors :)

Hello Tina, nice to meet you. Here are my answers :)

Where do you usually shop for your dolls?

I used to buy a lot from Ebay but lately I go to thedollpage.com and for some Barbie dolls I go to BarbieCollector.com

There are great online doll retailers  like Angelic Dreamz and Doll Attic among others. I also visit doll shows whenever we have them in the San Antonio, TX area.

How long have you been collecting dolls?

11 years ago I received my very first collector Barbie as a gift. before that I used to buy playline at garage sales and department stores.

Do you display your collection? How?

I have dolls in curio cabinets and on shelves and bookcases in my little doll room. The ones not displayed are in a closet still in their boxes.

Do you think your collection is valuable?

Yes, I do so because I know there is a market for many of them.

But their value for me is more sentimental (with few exceptions) as they represent what I wasn't able to have as a child.

Anything else about doll collecting you'd like to share?

I collect mainly Barbie, but I have Tyler from Tonner, Gene and a few dolls by Integrity Toys.

    Hope it helps,

    Nilsa

That is so nice of you to offer! This is going to be a great show that showcases some amazing collections so the more people that know about it the better! I will put up a thread that has our text for the show. Would you like to private message me your email address & I can send you an email with the info as well? So excited!

I've seen some really awesome displays. Some of the pictures even on this website! Basically I'm looking for the most amazing doll Collections out there for a new television show I'm casting. I'm definitely not trying to spam on your website, mostly just find out more about where to find these collectors. Do you have any suggestions on how to get the word out Simon? I'm looking into doll pages.com right now. There are lots of places on there to check :)

Hi Tina! Thanks for saying hello and for some great questions!! Here goes:

Ebay less so these days, dollpage.com (highly recommended), a couple of european retailors, angelic dreamz

I have been collecting since 2000

I don't tend to display as such but will break the dolls out for photos. I am on the look out for display cases/domes though for display in the living room and for protection against curious cats!!

I don't have huge numbers of dolls as I tend to sell before i buy (or try to too!!) but what I have would probably be pretty valuabe

As Catherine says you will learn tons from the wonderful members on this site but my main advice is to have as much fun as possible with your dolls!!!

Your blog is amazing! I just checked it out. I've been hearing a lot about shopping on eBay for dolls. Is it easy/hard to find rare dolls on there for a decent price? Even though you have your blog do you still display them in your house?

Not sure about starting a collection, I have 3 Barbies still in their boxes that are worth about $50 last time I checked. The reason why I'm trying to find out more about collecting is that I am currently casting a new tv show called Master Collectors. We'd really love to have an amazing female barbie collection so I'm exploring ways to find these women. Would you be interested in hearing more about our show?

Ps. Your Whitney Houston doll is amazing!

  • Hey, Tina

    Welcome here!

I've been collecting my (55 for now) dolls for 1,5 years now (as an adult collector). I usually shop on eBay and by nude dolls because they cost a lot cheaper than dressed up. I display my collection on my blog and think is very valuable, of course, depending on what you mean by "valuable".

as I started collecting it was a little unclear what exactly I wanted to do with my dolls, because just putting them on a shelf wasn't that fun for me. And then I thought of making photos and dresses and displaying them online. I don't sell anything, though, because my work means a lot to me. But, maybe, I will sell some stuff some day, because I cannot store everything forever!

If you want start collecting, you can find a lot of useful info on this site concerning dolls in discussion groups. I can help you with some advice, too.

What were your ideas on collecting? Do you wanna start?

    Hugs,

    Catherine
