Hi everyone! I know that Doll Observer is a community for ALL doll collectors, so please forgive me for posting Barbie-exclusive stuff here. I am "primarily" a Barbie collector, after all...
For the remainder of the month of April, Life in Plastic is having a PHOTO CONTEST!!!
The theme is "Life in Plastic: Not Always so Fantastic".
Allow me to explain.
We know that many of our blog visitors and Facebook subscribers have a great sense of humor, and we'd love to see your creativity come into play!
Please submit a photo of your Barbie® doll(s) in a "not so fantastic" situation...or as the world of internet memes calls it, simply "FAIL". Yes, F-A-I-L. "Fail"! A "Barbie Fail" photo.
More contest RULES:
(1) Submissions must have a maximum of file size of 10 MegaBytes.
(2) Submissions must not contain photos of identifiable humans. Only Barbie dolls, please!
(3) Submissions must not contain any text, except for a discreet watermark
(4) WHERE TO SEND YOUR PHOTO(s): Please send your photo submissions as email attachments to barbieguyken@yahoo.com and include your full name or the name you wish to attribute the photo to. Winner(s) will be notified via email.
(5) DEADLINE: The submission deadline is Monday, April 23, 2012 at 00:00 (midnight).
Qualifying entries will be placed in a Facebook photo album, and the first place winner will be the photo that receives the most "likes" during the voting period, which will be from April 22 to April 30, 2012.
Now you might be wondering, "what do I get for joining this contest?"
*** PRIZES!!! ***
The first place winner (photo that receives the most "likes") will receive a NEW, mint, never-removed-from-box Barbie® EASTER SWEETIE® doll (courtesy of the Life in Plastic eBay store):
There will be a special "Barbie Guy's Choice Award" (with surprise prize) for my personal favorite, and special prizes for the 2nd and 3rd place winners!

I look forward to seeing your best, funniest "Barbie FAIL" photos!!!
Warmest regards,
Jared

What a great idea for a competition, this will be great fun! Can't wait to see what people come up with. Be sure to keep us updated when voting goes 'live' Jared :)
Permalink Reply by Jared P on April 17, 2012 at 2:15 I will keep the Doll Observer community updated, Simon. :) I'm excited, too! I love to see how creative people get with their dolls. Your photo contests here are great! I actually joined because I saw one of the Fairy Tale themed entries somewhere online...can't remember where...but now I'm a member here!

Permalink Reply by Jared P on April 21, 2012 at 1:02 Update: the pot might be sweetening for this contest (new and better prizes are a possibility)...also, I haven't received enough entries to make this a real competition, so I'm looking at extending the submission deadline. If you have some Barbie photographer friends, please let them know about the contest!
Permalink Reply by Jared P on April 23, 2012 at 17:20 Update: As of April 22, 2012, the SUBMISSION DEADLINE for the Contest has been EXTENDED to April 30, 2012.
New prizes are also available for the contest winners:
(1) First Prize (the photo that receives the most "likes" on Facebook during the voting period) - The Original Teenage Fashion Model gift set (2009) - the most faithful reproduction of the 1959 Barbie® doll that debuted at the Toy Fair in New York. The gift set comes with the famous "Solo in the Spotlight" fashion and accessories as well as cool collectible cards.
(2) "Barbie Guy's Choice" Award Prize: the Easter Sweetie™ Barbie® doll (see photo in the original post)
(3) Second and Third prize winners will receive Barbie Mini B. doll play sets
All prizes are courtesy of the Life in Plastic eBay Store.
Please tell your friends about the contest! I am looking forward to receiving more entries! Send your funniest "Barbie Fail" photos to barbieguyken@yahoo.com with your full name. Contest winners will be notified via email.

Permalink Reply by Nilsa M. Donelan on April 23, 2012 at 18:33 Jared, is the contest open to everyone, doesn't matter the country??
Let me know as I can tell my friends from a Spanish speaking doll forum.
They are from Europe and South America.
Permalink Reply by Jared P on April 23, 2012 at 19:01 Nilsa, great question! Yes, the contest is open to everyone from all over the world! I will ship your prize wherever you are. I have shipped hundreds of dolls all over the world in these last few months since I began selling dolls, so I have no problem sending dolls outside the USA.
Please tell all your friends about the contest. The more entries, the merrier!
Thanks very much Nilsa! And thanks for telling me about "In the Pink".

Oh dear, now I'm kicking myself for not checking Doll Observers sooner. I missed the deadline for this. It seems like a really good contest. Usually I photograph my dolls looking fabulous, but I like the idea of trying to pose them in a NOT fantastic situation. I want to see all the entries now.
Permalink Reply by Jared P on April 30, 2012 at 4:50 Oh no Valerie! It's not too late! You can still submit a photo until tomorrow. I hope you do manage to send one in. In any case, I hope this contest works out well so we can have another contest in the future!
