Well, keep us posted!!
Hello, Debra. I'm from Trinidad and Tobago.
I think this is a great idea, as the uniqueness of the doll, it's fashions and accessories would surely interest adult collectors.
The dolls for younger children, however, would have to compete with many others currently on the market and would need something that would pique their interest, as they may not identify with or be aware of Caribbean culture, to be able to appreciate the doll. You could base your dolls on characters in your own Caribbean-based children's stories.
Because carnival is such a big thing here, in the 1990's I dressed a few dolls in costumes, as souvenirs for persons returning abroad. See below and excuse the bad photos. I had no digital camera back then.
I even tried my hand at a removable costume to fit Barbie.
Your themes could be based on national costumes, festivals, celebrations, traditions. The possibilities are endless, because the Caribbean comprises so many countries with varied historical and cultural influences.
I, too, wish you the best of luck with this project and hope you keep us updated.
I an so sorry for responding late to you. This is exactly what I am talking about. You hit the nail right in the head. The photos are great. Yes Yes we need to create a caribbean presence among the doll loving community. Yes with children in North America the doll may have to be marketed differently. Thank for your support. I appreciate it. I have looked at several options and still doing more research. I am from St. Vincent and the Grenadines so carnival is definatly a great theme to explore.
