I buy and sell on ebay but I have not sold anything in FOREVER due to one person who ruined the fun for me and it was all because of some stupid mickey and minnie wedding cake server set that I had purchased brand new for my wedding.  My husbands aunt bought us a callalily set that I did'nt want to use but since she was my husband aunt and godmother I didn't want to hurt her felling and not use it.  So now I have this mickey and minnie set that I'm never going to use, I decided to try and sell it on ebay I purchased it for 35 dollars but I started the bid out at 9.99.  There was a little bit of a bidding war but this lady finally got it at 15 dollars. Now I stated in red and in big font that I was going to be taking them out of the box to ship them because of the shape of the box they were in was of mickey's head and I would have had to put them in a way bigger box which ment more money to ship.  This lady pays and I ship them out within 24 hrs and I don't hear from her until 3 days after she gets the package then she emails me telling me she wants a parcial refund because they are not new and there was no packing in the box.  I emailed her reminding her that the listed stated no refunds and reminded her that the box was packed full of packing peanuts and each one were also wrapped in newspaper and tapped closed but told her if she was not happy with them she could send them back and I would refund her money.  I wanted to hang onto my 100% rating.  This went on for 8 days, she didn't want to return them just wanted a parcial refund. Finally after 8 days of  being nice and sending her a pic of the original box with the receipt next to it, I finally told her in my last email that if she did not want to return them for a full refund and that she wasn't getting a parcial refund to live with it. My entire dealing with this lady was horid, telling me if I didn't give her a parcial refund she was going to contact ebay and that I was a bad seller.   I had never had a problem selling before, talk about one person ruining it for the rest of the bunch!  I have only sold 2 or 3 things since and that was over a year ago.

You have my sympathy....at the moment we have no alternative but to use ebay to sell our product - a reproduction Bild Lilli. I am SICK of dealing with liars - the last one claimed that the metal spike for the stand had got stuck in her leg, due to insufficient packaging - and they had got it out by removing the leg and taking the top off it, as it was coming unstuck...this is all lies. We make the damn things and you just can't do that. As it was packaged wrapped in bubblewrap, then in her display tube and then in a cardboard tube which fits exactly, this just can't happen. They just want a refund......thhere's also the squealing of 'Where's my doll?' after only 2 days of auction end - and this is almost always from Americans, and as we live in the UK and explain that post can take up to 2 weeks, we are really sick of it.

We even had someone complain that the doll was painted hard plastic - which it says in the very first line of the description - just like a real Bild Lilli is. I much prefer selling at shows....

This is the thing you can even post in big letters, but maybe someone won't see it. Due to a short attention span. My seller hid it in tiny print at the bottom, but you always must send it in the box, always because this affects the resale value. You can create two types of shipping more for in the box and less for out and then ask the buy which type they want to be sure. Most people are only collecting for the resale in the future. I don't because I truly like the dolls and want to play with them.
This is because many sellers send an auto reply that says your package is on the way, but this can backfire, ones does not send it.  Once I bought shoes for a barbie, did not hear a thing, but waited, not wanting to bother them. Over time nothing came, so I wrote three weeks later. She never sent it, not getting the notice due to email they were sold. It was easy to fix, but you can contact the buyer and say, the package is on the way, this makes them feel better.  Say when you think it will arrive. Good communication is the key to positive feedback. The service can be perfect, but without communication the buyer may be unhappy, because they stressed out over the packing getting lost in the mail.
I have a few issues as a buyer on ebay and they are payment time and shipping time.  I don't understand sellers who want payment due within a certain time but then it takes them twice as long to ship it.  I feel that if a seller wants payment within 3 days of the auctions end then they should ship it out within 3 days once the payment had been recieved.  I purchased a doll once and the seller wanted payment within 48hrs of the auctions end which is fine and I understand but it took them 5 days to ship it.
I encountered a seller who refused to give me the tracking number of the package. When I'd ask about it, she'd either say the number she had wasn't working, or she'd say she couldn't find any info on the package, or on one rare occasion she'd tell me where the package was at that point. It took ages for the package to arrive and her behaviour was extremely frustrating. When I'd ask for the number so I could check it out myself, she'd get pissed. So annoying.. eventually the package arrived, but man, it took so long...

The funniest things keep happening. I had a seller for a wig, so I buy it and after a while a message comes in someone is dying of cancer the wig will be delays. I don't really believe the story, but I am like ok, just don't wait too long. So more time goes by, I am past the long wait so I can complain, I write again, I open a case, then I here it is coming and it does come. But, I am thinking if someone is dying of cancer, why not go the computer and just refund the money, as one is too upset to go to the post office. I think it was a sham, often buyer buy stuff and forget about it. The seller never has to send it. Months later, it's too late to complain. But, I still gave a positive rating, just in case, it was really cancer or something. I don't mind a delay if I am informed, but I should not have to nag the seller.

I saw some other things with the words" no refund no return" all over them plus ranting about evil buyers who want to return stuff just to cause trouble. I would never buy them a seller who is already shown to be crazy right out of the starting gate. If lots of people want to return stuff, there must be something wrong with it, and the ebay rules say returns must be allowed. Why would I want to return something just to torment an unknown seller?  Returning is a major pain for the buyer. It would be very unlikely that someone would do that.

The problem with eBay is that, when the buyer pays through PayPal, after they receive the item they can claim to PayPal that it never arrived and they'll get their money back without a hassle. Buyers are protected too well by PayPal, the story is never checked and the seller loses the item and the money. Now that people know this, some of them make a habit of asking for a refund after buying something and the seller can't do anything about it. That's what causes angry/frightened sellers.
This is true, so I like to send with delivery confirmed so they can't cheat me. I will often pay the postage so as not to use cheap postage that can't be tracked. There is one seller in Florida who took that theory too far.  She has a doll I want, but she wants to go fed ex making it too expensive as California is so far from Florida. Item number 120563142631, the postage should not cost more the item itself. It says the postage is 15 something, but it says it is adjusted by location, therefore making San Francisco the most expensive place. If the item is expensive over 100 dollars I can see the best way is UPS with delivery confirmation and insurance. Fed Ex is more expensive then UPS.

I once had two packages go missing after the tracking # showed they were "delivered" to my post office box. My post office has a history of putting things in the wrong boxes & producing them after hunts "backstage." Unfortunately these two were never found; the recipient must have liked them more than being honest.

The very gracious & sympathetic EBay sellers contacted my postmaster as well, finding out from him that I was a trustworthy, frequent customer with a real investigation. He said that they had a part time employee working that morning who had likely gotten confused, didn't remember where he put it, but had been talked to.  (That didn't help me much.) I didn't want to file claims because it would come out of the seller's pockets. It would be wrong to say they didn't send them, when I'm sure they did. Plus the tracking number was "proof" that they'd arrived - with a serious loophole that lets incompetent workers lose things behind the scenes. One seller sent me a duplicate at no charge; the other let me buy another at a significant discount.

As a seller, though, I was the victim of a scammer who said a bag I sent had stains, which I'm positive weren't there before. It was brand new with tags, kept safely in a closet until shipping. He sent a picture of a bag with discoloration on the back and demanded a discount for the "defective" item. I have 100% perfect feedback that I wasn't about to let a shady character ruin, so gave it to him. That taught me to post photos from all angles.

My doll-hunting has been overwhelmingly positive. There are quite a few sellers of whom I'm a repeat customer because they make it an easy transaction with pleasing results. I've gotten beautiful dolls I'd have a hard time finding otherwise & unique accessories from across the globe. I think doll hobbyists in general are just nicer human beings all around.

Other than paying eBay fees which cut into profits, my experiences over around 10 years have nearly all been great. I have 'met' many wonderful people who have liked my doll clothing, and it has been fun to keep track of places all around the world where I have sent items.

I used to sell preowned Barbie clothing, dolls and furniture etc. and I have sent things from Canada to France, England, Brazil, Japan, Indonesia and Hungary to name a few. I am not a Top Seller or anything like that, but I have around 1300 total positive feedbacks. I think I have only had maybe five or six items that were never paid but after relisting them they were all sold. Not one item has yet to go missing in the mail, even though some took rather a long time to reach their overseas destinations.

EBay has made so many improvements over the last 10 years. Everything is so much easier now - listing, tracking, messaging etc- than when I started selling. Back then, nothing was saved automatically as you filled in the choices and sometimes, just after creating a lengthy and very detailed item description the whole thing would just disappear and you would be faced with starting all over again. That was very frustrating. Categories are more specific now too.

My best experience, however was a few years ago when I had a whole Barbie Kitchen food and all, for sale. It was purchased by a French lady who was living in Poland at the time. It was a Christmas gift for  daughter and she couldn't find anything like it for sale where she lived. It was a large box and I sent it by air hoping she would get it in time. She received it in 3 days... that is faster delivery than mailing something across town! She was so thrilled and her emails were heartwarming.

Only once years ago was my account shut down temporarily. Someone had managed to hack into my email somehow and I was getting email questions from people about items I was not selling. I had an immediate response from eBay HQ when I asked for help and in a direct and very pleasant phone conversation I was lead through a step by step process to fix the problem. I was up and running again in about 30 minutes.

Even though I have a website now, I will probably keep listing things on eBay as well just because the audience is so big and because, for me, items have always sold and it is fun to watch an auction close. Last year I sold a very elegant dress pattern from 1931. I described it carefully as the envelope was not in good condition and one pattern piece was missing and listed it at $1.99 , it sold for $99! and once I sold a tiny Polly Pocket toy with a unicorn in it. I don't recall the listing price, probably around $2.99. A lady who collected unicorns bought it for $101. I really thought it was a mistake and was not expecting to be paid... but she paid and was happy!

Also, without eBay I would not have most of my lovely Silkstone and Fashion Royalty dolls or any re-ment for them to enjoy. As a buyer I usually use BIN and wait to find the sellers with reasonable shipping. I know it does not cost $32.00 to ship a doll from the US so I will look for those who ship to Canada for $7.00. Sometimes it tries my patience to wait, but another similar doll to the one I want always comes along.

That is my eBay experience

I bought something kind of bulky & heavy, and didn't think $45 shipping was too outrageous if it included insurance.  Only later did I realize that was because it was being sent to the United States from a seller in Finland!
