You have my sympathy....at the moment we have no alternative but to use ebay to sell our product - a reproduction Bild Lilli. I am SICK of dealing with liars - the last one claimed that the metal spike for the stand had got stuck in her leg, due to insufficient packaging - and they had got it out by removing the leg and taking the top off it, as it was coming unstuck...this is all lies. We make the damn things and you just can't do that. As it was packaged wrapped in bubblewrap, then in her display tube and then in a cardboard tube which fits exactly, this just can't happen. They just want a refund......thhere's also the squealing of 'Where's my doll?' after only 2 days of auction end - and this is almost always from Americans, and as we live in the UK and explain that post can take up to 2 weeks, we are really sick of it.
We even had someone complain that the doll was painted hard plastic - which it says in the very first line of the description - just like a real Bild Lilli is. I much prefer selling at shows....

Permalink Reply by Tropical Thought on April 11, 2011 at 16:26 The funniest things keep happening. I had a seller for a wig, so I buy it and after a while a message comes in someone is dying of cancer the wig will be delays. I don't really believe the story, but I am like ok, just don't wait too long. So more time goes by, I am past the long wait so I can complain, I write again, I open a case, then I here it is coming and it does come. But, I am thinking if someone is dying of cancer, why not go the computer and just refund the money, as one is too upset to go to the post office. I think it was a sham, often buyer buy stuff and forget about it. The seller never has to send it. Months later, it's too late to complain. But, I still gave a positive rating, just in case, it was really cancer or something. I don't mind a delay if I am informed, but I should not have to nag the seller.
I saw some other things with the words" no refund no return" all over them plus ranting about evil buyers who want to return stuff just to cause trouble. I would never buy them a seller who is already shown to be crazy right out of the starting gate. If lots of people want to return stuff, there must be something wrong with it, and the ebay rules say returns must be allowed. Why would I want to return something just to torment an unknown seller? Returning is a major pain for the buyer. It would be very unlikely that someone would do that.

Permalink Reply by xGlamFairyx on November 21, 2011 at 20:21 I once had two packages go missing after the tracking # showed they were "delivered" to my post office box. My post office has a history of putting things in the wrong boxes & producing them after hunts "backstage." Unfortunately these two were never found; the recipient must have liked them more than being honest.
The very gracious & sympathetic EBay sellers contacted my postmaster as well, finding out from him that I was a trustworthy, frequent customer with a real investigation. He said that they had a part time employee working that morning who had likely gotten confused, didn't remember where he put it, but had been talked to. (That didn't help me much.) I didn't want to file claims because it would come out of the seller's pockets. It would be wrong to say they didn't send them, when I'm sure they did. Plus the tracking number was "proof" that they'd arrived - with a serious loophole that lets incompetent workers lose things behind the scenes. One seller sent me a duplicate at no charge; the other let me buy another at a significant discount.
As a seller, though, I was the victim of a scammer who said a bag I sent had stains, which I'm positive weren't there before. It was brand new with tags, kept safely in a closet until shipping. He sent a picture of a bag with discoloration on the back and demanded a discount for the "defective" item. I have 100% perfect feedback that I wasn't about to let a shady character ruin, so gave it to him. That taught me to post photos from all angles.
My doll-hunting has been overwhelmingly positive. There are quite a few sellers of whom I'm a repeat customer because they make it an easy transaction with pleasing results. I've gotten beautiful dolls I'd have a hard time finding otherwise & unique accessories from across the globe. I think doll hobbyists in general are just nicer human beings all around.
Permalink Reply by Frances Weir on November 24, 2011 at 17:40 Other than paying eBay fees which cut into profits, my experiences over around 10 years have nearly all been great. I have 'met' many wonderful people who have liked my doll clothing, and it has been fun to keep track of places all around the world where I have sent items.
I used to sell preowned Barbie clothing, dolls and furniture etc. and I have sent things from Canada to France, England, Brazil, Japan, Indonesia and Hungary to name a few. I am not a Top Seller or anything like that, but I have around 1300 total positive feedbacks. I think I have only had maybe five or six items that were never paid but after relisting them they were all sold. Not one item has yet to go missing in the mail, even though some took rather a long time to reach their overseas destinations.
EBay has made so many improvements over the last 10 years. Everything is so much easier now - listing, tracking, messaging etc- than when I started selling. Back then, nothing was saved automatically as you filled in the choices and sometimes, just after creating a lengthy and very detailed item description the whole thing would just disappear and you would be faced with starting all over again. That was very frustrating. Categories are more specific now too.
My best experience, however was a few years ago when I had a whole Barbie Kitchen food and all, for sale. It was purchased by a French lady who was living in Poland at the time. It was a Christmas gift for daughter and she couldn't find anything like it for sale where she lived. It was a large box and I sent it by air hoping she would get it in time. She received it in 3 days... that is faster delivery than mailing something across town! She was so thrilled and her emails were heartwarming.
Only once years ago was my account shut down temporarily. Someone had managed to hack into my email somehow and I was getting email questions from people about items I was not selling. I had an immediate response from eBay HQ when I asked for help and in a direct and very pleasant phone conversation I was lead through a step by step process to fix the problem. I was up and running again in about 30 minutes.
Even though I have a website now, I will probably keep listing things on eBay as well just because the audience is so big and because, for me, items have always sold and it is fun to watch an auction close. Last year I sold a very elegant dress pattern from 1931. I described it carefully as the envelope was not in good condition and one pattern piece was missing and listed it at $1.99 , it sold for $99! and once I sold a tiny Polly Pocket toy with a unicorn in it. I don't recall the listing price, probably around $2.99. A lady who collected unicorns bought it for $101. I really thought it was a mistake and was not expecting to be paid... but she paid and was happy!
Also, without eBay I would not have most of my lovely Silkstone and Fashion Royalty dolls or any re-ment for them to enjoy. As a buyer I usually use BIN and wait to find the sellers with reasonable shipping. I know it does not cost $32.00 to ship a doll from the US so I will look for those who ship to Canada for $7.00. Sometimes it tries my patience to wait, but another similar doll to the one I want always comes along.
That is my eBay experience
Permalink Reply by xGlamFairyx on November 29, 2011 at 2:18 I bought something kind of bulky & heavy, and didn't think $45 shipping was too outrageous if it included insurance. Only later did I realize that was because it was being sent to the United States from a seller in Finland!
