How to revive dead hair?

Hey, guys!

I've got a question. How can you revive Barbie hair? I have a couple of dolls who've got the problem already. I cannot reroot - not one of my talents, sadly. Maybe, you have some ideas?

Thank you, Peggy. I'm experimenting a lot. I've noticed that so much depends on the quality and volume of the doll's hair. Some hair types are easier to handle, some are not. Thank you, again.

Hey Mary Beth this works I bump roll (using one bobby pin to secure two straws) to get a nice bubble style for dolls with medium lenght hair

I would use shampoo and conditioner myself. I have done a lot of re roots in my life that can be time consuming but if you have the time and don't want to replace the doll just re root the part you  need there are tutorials online of how to re root a barbie doll head.

First I use a Infusium/moisture conditioner on dry hair. I comb it thru the dry hair with a wide tooth comb and leave it on for about 2 hours. Then I rinse it off and shampoo using a small amount of clear (non cream) shampoo. After it dries I cut tiny pieces of all the split ends from around the bottom of the hair and pull out any hairs that don't lie flat. Sometimes I'll add a shine product for straight hair, or steam it into curls using drinking straws as rollers

To do the steam method: Set it in the cut up drinking straws or wrap it in plastic wrap to get it to lie flat.

The steam method involves boiling a small pot of water to get the steam going, and then holding the dolls  head slightly above the pot so the steam hits it. Be careful you don't burn your hands!  Use a hand towel to form a tent above and around the pot so more steam gets into the hair.

Do this about a minute or two.  Then let the head dry for 24 hours with the curlers or plastic wrap still on. Slowly and carefully remove rollers from the bottom up and arrange & fluff with your fingers. You may or may not want to comb thru it depending on the hair texture.

I use to fill a glass with fabric softner, and then put Barbie in the glass and let her hair be in there all night or even longer, then rinse out and combe her with a cat comb, you need that one often if you have old dolls.

My cat does not like it anyway  ;)
