Introduction

Hi guys!

My friend Deb has been hyping about the doll observers so much I just had to join up. I'm emilia from Finland although I'm now living in China somewhat permanently to keep an eye on my doll line production.I started collecting in 2006 and thought dolls were too much of girls toys before that. Actually as a kid I much preferred scraping my knees, hitting boys with a stick and climbing trees. ;) My doll collection consists of Sybarites, Numina, Integrity Toys, BJDs and some odds and ends. It's awesome to find a doll forum completely new to me and also one that works from China without a proxy since those are few and far between and I need more dollyfriends in my life! :)

It is very nice to meet you!! I wish you wonderful success with your doll line!! Are you going to share some of your creations here? Would Love to see how you are progressing!! I know how you feel about being lonely for dolly friends. There aren't many in Massachusetts that I know. I have always wanted to meet people around my area. I have several on line friends that filled that void!!! Sometimes it is hard because no one gets my obsession for my dolls! I can just imagine how difficult it is to make your own line. I made porcelain dolls for many years and even helped teach kids how to make dolls on Saturdays in exchange for doll supplies likes glass eyes and wigs. I made many dolls for family and friends...But the loneliness for friendships in my area sometimes gets to me...I know I am a hoarderette of my dolls and hope someday i meet with a doll collector or collectors in my area. I met Hilda in person who is a member here she is a wonderful caring loving person she has since moved to another state. I loved meeting her an two other doll collectors!!! But it was about an hour away. So being in China I am sure you must be lonely!!! Share when you can!!! Nice to meet you!!! Here are some of my dolls that I made in porcelain class I ended up getting a modern doll making certificate as a result!! Some of these dolls are my practice workshop dolls!!!

Em'lia, you are really brave to risk this business venture. Not many people will dare to follow their dreams. I know what you mean about the lower expenses in China. That's so nice. I traveled in China in 1996 and had some delicious meals for a very low price.

Lisa, all the dolls you made are just beautiful!! That is neat that you were able to make such nice creations. Do you sew their costumes too?

Thank you for the welcome Lisa. Love your dolls! And yes, I have shared some of my creations here already and will post pics of the upcoming projects too. You can find them at the Inamorata group and my photo album.

Here is one picture of my first Inamorata doll for you. She is a OOAK called Mirrorball and presented as charity prize for IDEX 2013. You can find more pics of her on myflickr set.

Nilsa: I couldn't do it alone either and luckily I don't have to. My wonderful hubby is here with me and so are 2 of my cats (one gets car sick so easy I just couldn't put her through the ordeal of the 24 hour flight so she lives with my step-sister now. The other 2 made it fine here and are happy to enjoy the tropic heat instead of the Finnish cold). My hubby is working on designing his own jewellery line and doing other freelance project as it is pretty hard for him to get a job here (accept English teacher) without speaking any Chinese. We are hoping Hong Kong might offer him some short projects in the movie industry (he is a set designer).

Valerie: The prices have gone up crazy since 2006 when I was here last (not to mention from 1996!) but it's still all much cheaper than Finland, which is probably one of the most expensive places to live in the world (high costs of living plus high taxes leave you no purchase power what so ever). Still, it's a crazy risk just jumping blind into life here relying on nothing but a newborn company. It's really sink or swim so keep your fingers crossed for me! :)
