Introductions

 

   Hi, my name is Mel.  I've been collecting dolls for the last 7 1/2 years.  I used to have a lot when I was a kid, now that my interest is renewed I regret not saving them.  However, I find a lot of satisfaction in shopping and searching for ones I remember and also anything new that appeals.  Occasionally I put together sets of dolls and clothes to give to less fortunate.  Foster children etc...

Hi Mel, welcome to Dollobservers! It's great to hear that you donate dolls for good causes. I'd love to hear more about that as it seems to me there are lots of children in need in this world of ours at the moment :(

I have sent dolls to the Phillipines  and to Mexico.  I usually try to find a missionary that's already going to these places and then send the dolls with them.  I package the dolls with at least two changes of clothes each so the kids can have some fun playing.  Some of the clothes I make and some I collect from thrift store trips and then wash and repair them.  I gave a box of 50 Barbies (from the goodwill but in good condition) and another set of about 30.  Both of these went with clothes and shoes to  a Christmas Foster child party, two years consecutive.

I also gave about 15 dolls to our custodian for her grand daughter to pick from and the rest were going to her church for their program for the needy.

Well I did not keep my childhood doll,unfortunately,but allways loved dolls for sure!

I am still finding my way around the site too, as I have time.  Welcome!

  Maybe as you shop around and collect you will find a doll that at least reminds you of the one you had.  I always wonder if I'll ever see any of mine...I had at least 25 in those days.  Those days were LONG ago!
