Greetings, Everyone!
I thought this might be an interesting topic for discussion, so here it goes:
Most times we name our dolls. Either for personal reasons or a name we just have stuck in our heads, it leaves a unique reminder of something in our pasts that we hold dear to us. It's always interesting, looking back and remembering the story behind the name. Do you name your dolls? If so , what do you name them after? Where do you get your inspiration?? (e.g. a movie, a look-alike, where you bought it, etc.) Or do you keep their "factory" name? (That gets pretty tricky when you have 10 different models of the same doll!!) Do you need advice naming your doll???? Maybe we can help out!
I guess I'll start!
I never really began naming my dolls until I recieved my second Ellowyne. I named her Louisa, since I was in "The Sound Of Music" at the time. Whenever I mention her or make a reference to her, all the happy memories of being in the production come back to me! It's a "moment in time" sort of deal. With my latest doll, the FDQ exclusive Grey, I am still brainstorming. She really reminds me of an English queen, with her pale skin and strong features. I recently watched "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" and she sort of reminds me of Queen Elizabeth! A very pale and beautiful creature, yet very strong emotionally despite her delicate figure. That's the idea I'm going with, so bear with me.

At the moment I only name the dolls that I've given new hair and a new outfit, a new personality so to speak :P. I name them whichever pops into my head that seems to fit them. I've named my first reroot Marina because she looks like a mermaid, the second is called Rose because it's a sweet name and she looks very sweet. The third isn't done yet. When I started working on her reroot I thought she looked like a Laura, but now I think she's a Jamie, lol. I'll name her when she's completely finished, but I'm pretty sure I'll stick with Jamie.
I systematical rename my dolls at their arrival , I do not know them until I gave them a "personal"name
I have (until now) 30 member in my "gang" (most of them Tonner, mme Alexander, Mel Odom)
my "gang"is quite well structured, first name/family name/ birth date/nationality/job etc...
the name does not refer to any memories or attraction to celebrities, but rather to the personality of my new doll. I like divers ethnicity in the gang , so I buy the doll with the idea in mind and start looking for names (first and family names in web pages from her/his country) it happen some time tha the name I have chosen does not correspond to the doll, like if she/he does not like it :( so I go back to the web and look for another until we are both happy
as Marie is French , Fabio is Spanish, Sean O Farrell is Irish and Alizayanna is from Brazil
it is a lot easier for my (poor) memory to remember names that I gave myself
I have been giving names to my dolls since the beginning of collecting to avoid using name of a model (which can be long and awkward) or to avoid saying "this one in blue dress".
I’ve never doubled the doll's names, so there is one unique for each doll. I usually pick it after staring at the doll for hours wondering which would best suite her.
Usually when I sell dolls, new owners are using doll’s names that I gave.
see? we are kind of doing the same thing, it's like our dolls are actually giving a "sign"or something, to help us give them a name that suit them better right? I am not surprise your customer keep the name!

Never did this. Don't really know why... I just don't feel like giving them names. Does this mean I don't love them enough? :P

Permalink Reply by xGlamFairyx on November 21, 2011 at 19:46 I'm going to have to start thinking about this soon, since there can't be 3 Veroniques under one roof. (Can you tell she's my favorite?) I'm still getting to know them so their most suitable names haven't come to me yet, but blonde Luchia Z. is keeping her maiden name even if her brunette twin moves in later on. I've renamed one of the Barbies "Angel" because... well, you'll see. :-)
