My husband and I have been discussing building rooms for fashion dolls. For now just basic rooms with nice wood floors and paint or wallpaper walls, unfurnished. I am really new to fashion dolls so I am not sure if a custom built room would be interesting to anyone as an item to buy. I'm looking for any sort of feedback on this; best size, interest level, does anyone do this sort of thing (and where can I research this topic further) and so on.

A bit of wood glue would make it permanent once it got to you. Thanks for bringing up the shipping, that is a really important aspect of the project.

Permalink Reply by Mark Herr on January 14, 2012 at 3:18 would these rooms include doors and windows?
Permalink Reply by andy sorensen on January 14, 2012 at 3:28 could you make them modular and stack-able? then if you buy more, you can make a dollhouse out of them....

Permalink Reply by Anne Field on January 14, 2012 at 16:58 Ethan (my husband) and I were discussing these again this morning. He is very into the idea of putting in windows and doors AND making them stackable. Does anyone have a good dimension for a room size they would like to see? I know I hate when rooms are so small everything is crowded in and you can't enjoy it. Is 18X24 a good size? Something bigger, something smaller? Would different types be interesting (windows in different places. Some without doors, etc)?
It should be pretty simple to make them collapsible for easy shipping. And then fairly easy to set them up. They could either be left alone so they can be taken apart and stored (and brought easily to doll shows...) or with a bit of glue made permanent.
Does anyone know what re-ment was selling them for? And if they were really nice or if they were just a basic room? Nothing in these custom rooms would be plastic. Ethan wants to do nice wood floors (in proper scale of course) and I haven't heard much about the walls but I'm sure those would be either painted or papered. Furniture might happen as well but right now Ethan is focusing on rooms.

I love the sound of this project, especially if it can be shipped and stored flat. I have been on the look out for something like this for sometime so I would definitely be a potential customer :)
18x24 sounds a good size to work with especially with a realistic floor/wall arrangement...

I just checked out this site, thanks for the link Andy. They are amazing. But expensive as you say.
Also I am a fan of the clea bella stage set http://www.cleabella.com/ but again it is very expensive and I don't like most of the settings as they are bit too traditional for my taste. I like the idea of having a basic set that can then be customised to become different settings though. And it packs flat too!
