Promo Barbies photos v.s. final product

 

It is frustrating when we get a doll and we noticed that something is not quite the same as you expected based on the promo picture. I know, there is always that "Production doll may vary from the photo shown above. [Insert company name here] reserves the right to modify the fashion/fabrics, sculpt, hair color/style, and accessories."

I used to read that "warning" and see it as the "exception" but lately, it is becoming the rule for some Barbies.

 

I have 2 recent cases. Grace Kelly Rear Window and Dolls Of The World Argentina.

So I decided to fix their looks to see how close I could get to the promo photos.

See the result below. I used just some water, rubber bands for the hair and a Barbie hairbrush:

 

I know out  there  there are experts and they could do a better job than the one I have done but for now, I'm happy with my results.

Hi Nilsa you have done an excellent job here! It always seems to be the hair that suffers most in these cases isn't it?

Thanks Simon. Yes, always the hair. I'm a de-boxer and so many times when I remove the doll from the box, the back of the hair is a mess!!

The Irish Festivals of the World doll has wonderful curls... on the front, the back of the hair is very bad.

Me too, I always liberate dolls from the tyranny of packaging LOL! I hate the way the hair at the back is sometimes stitched or attached to the packaging. A while back Barbie packaging seemed to have the hair sewn into 2 plastic strips. A nightmare to remove!

Oh yes! Those awful plastic strips. I wonder who had that  idea -lol

ugh.  I hate the packaging with the doll sewn in.

Nilsa, in cases like these, your satisfaction is the only thing that matters. Mattel produces one thing; you make it more to your taste - that sounds like a win to me.

What I dislike is when ordering online based on the promo and then the surprise!!

When I pick the doll  at a store is different because I'm seeing what I'm really getting.

Sometimes is good to wait to see real photos before buying but with some collector dolls there is a chance of missing the doll.
