I was just wondering if any one had heard about a group trying to get a barbie with no hair. The group is trying to get a barbie that looks like she is undergoing chemo treatments. They believe it would help little girls if there doll looked like them. Any one have any thoughts on the issue?

Hi Cathy, This is a great idea! Can I ask which group is undertaking this endeavour? It sounds like a very worthy cause.

I know there have been several Barbie's in the past designed to wear wigs so therefore bald underneath such as the spa treatment Silkstones. However these aren't easily, or cheaply, available and I cannot think of playline dolls made without rooted hair. Hmm i'm sure some Barbie expert out there will know.

I will forward this discussion to Ada who is our resident Barbie whiz so I am sure she will be able to help with this great cause :)

I think one great thing about this, we're not all cut from a mold, so to speak, and the world has illnesses and such. Little girls and women such as myself look at these Barbies, and while I find them Beautiful, I gag too. I think one can be beautiful and Not look exactly the same, not be stick thin. While I love the beautiful idea that Barbie is, and wouldn't change it. I do support having a change and showing people that beautiful is who they are! Size 12 Is not a crime, it's beautiful.

I read an article that actually showed size 10 and 12 as plus size women!! I couldn't believe it! (sorry off topic) But it's along the same lines. Let's show people, that being different, unique and special is absolutely gorgeous!

Great idea. There is a company that makes dolls who are bald and have wigs . The doll is suppose to represent a cancer patient.

I found a little more information about the Cancer pt. Barbie doll. there is a group of people who are trying to get Matel to  make a barbie doll for little girls with cancer. the idea is that children relate to there dolls, and  that this might help there self image. If any one is interested there is a site (http://hope2011.epetitions.net/ ) that can explain it far better then I can.

I thinks this a great idea as well. I saw recently in Facebook a pic of the Disney princesses bald and I liked the ideas. I saw Barbie in well chair and think of the eyes and smile of a little girl in front of her with the same condition.

for my point of view barbie is not just a doll nor a figure that little girl as to dream of, she is before all "all that you want to be"

I watch all the Barbie movies (I am totally hook thanks to my grand-daughter of 7  ) the message is all about friendship, adventure, courage, and a bit of sparkle , some kids with this awful cancer need this sparkling as much as they can, to believe, that adventure and friendship is and will be, some time hope is just the sparkle we need.

I sincerely hope a bald Barbie could be on the shelve soon.

Hmm. I see may words but no actual answer! I have to agree with you Ada

Like someone said on FB: this is not an answer. It's a "look what we have done" list. Nobody says they haven't done a lot but this was very, very important. They want to make Kardashian Barbies but can't make a bald Barbie for children suffering from cancer?? So wrong.

Hasbro just anounced they will be creating 2 GI joe dolls this year, I believe Mattel will do the same at some point.

I'm sorry but I don't see what GI Joe has to do with a bald Barbie that will help children with cancer....

People were looking for a bald Barbie and Ken or GI joe doll. Many little boys prefer bald GI joe.

So Hasbro has anounced they will create a bald GI Joe for the same cause as the bald Barbie?
