We have all experienced the odd raised eyebrow or nervous shuffling of feet when we tell a friend or acquaintance about our doll hobby. After all they know not what they do, poor things :(
However the best we can expect is for our nearest and dearest to at least be polite! Unfortunately this is not always the case so this begs the question: what it the worst thing that someone has said to you in the face of your love of dolls??
To kick things off this is what a friend said to me when I excitedly showed off my latest (and rather expensive) gal; "You paid that much... for a piece of plastic!" Ugh the words still haunt me!

Mom: Only when you throw it away on dolls!
ho I got just a new "fresh" one
this came from my sister, of course she is not on dolls and we do live fare away from each other (you wonder!!)
She said. -"I see you are still playing with your dolls?" (and add very gently, like a little girl) but beside this...what are you doing?
and my answer! heuuuu... I play a bit more!
:) why not eh? life is good

dolls are beautiful, classy, miniature human representation.they often help us transfer stress and sadness away
most of the people see just "the toy doll", we see fashion, elegance, beautiful stories, artist talent, workmanship etc...
I remember and old man near our house, when I was little girl, he was a stamp collector. He was a very serious man, and people were taking him VERY SERIOUSLY . what is a stamp after all? basically a tiny, little piece of paper!, but depending of the rarity it can reach high price right? and people who are collector are not badly judged for collecting right? what are the stamp collector looking for? rarity, theme/colors, aspect/condition, stories, artist talent, workmanship etc...and when they need it, they are loosing themselves in their collection.
see, Evelien whatever the hobby we have if we (our self) take it seriously, we certainly not have to be embarrassed about anything. My sister does not have any hobby, except the TV soap opera,(I am not a fan of this kind ) she talk about it as if it was real life... I listen :)

Haha, I love your answer. One of my sisters hates my hobby and she actually enjoys it when I get embarrassed because she thinks I should be :(. Oh well. I'm starting to feel ashamed of my love for dolls less and less.
Permalink Reply by Evelien on June 29, 2011 at 6:38 It's funny, my father collects stamps and still he thinks my hobby is a waste of money ;)
Some people will never want to understand. That's why I value my online dolly friends so much.
see? it 's very strange, the perception of other toward us. this does not make any of us (or them) better or worst, we are just different.
and for the same reason, I love to have our gathering place here. no judgement just fun between frien with the same hobby.

My friends are already used to my doll collecting. I also collect and watch old cartoons so you can imagine how that sounds. :)) But I really don't care. So proud of my passions. They really define me. <3

I must admit that, reaction to my doll collecting from stranger people is always positive, so far. There was some issues with my relatives but I think they are getting used to now (they probably figured out that it's last for so many years so they don’t have any other way but accept it).
Buy there was a few situations that aggravated me a lot.
When I told my mother that I have to sell some dolls to buy another ones she was very surprised and ask my with disgust, is there anybody actually want to buy "these things"? Oh, well...me for example.
My aunt told me , when she saw my collection that her daughter also has dolls...when she was a child. But now she is an adult and she through then all away! That a pitty- if she told me sooner I could take them.
