My dear friends and collectors!

I would like to start this discussion about your favorite dolls. We all are collectors, more or less. And we certainly have   THE  special one doll - the one that was so long expected and we couldn't buy her a long time, or the one that is so beautiful  that we cannot imagine being in love with some other dolls.

For example, my favorite is the one you see on the left - Barbie Holiday 2007. She has my favorite Lara face mold and her hair is the best (platinum, with soft light blue streaks - almost invisible but sometimes noticeable in the sunlight). I even painted a bit her eyes - I made them green to make her look more special)! i own almost 80 dolls by now. She, Astrid, was my 20th, or so, but still remains my favorite girl from them all.

Tell me about yours and let's see the best dolls of each other. So,

tell us the original name of your doll, and

add her picture (ideally, in a good quality, so that we all can see what your precious darling is all about).

why you like her so much

in case you could not already tell, my favorite doll is morgan (kayla/leah).  I got morgan from a ooak doll maker on ebay (chanikava) and it is quite the story! i was searching for a barbie with dreadlocks... (i have always wanted dreads myself, but never been patient enough to grow my hair that long).   anyway, i found morgan and was instantly in love!!! however, i would have to wait about a week to purchase her after i got paid again....well, damn the luck, somebody else got her before me!!!! i was crushed!!! so about 3 months after that i was looking at the seller again to see if she had made anymore dolls, when low and behold, there was MY doll back for sale! apparently the woman who bought her returned her!!! and it was my birthday also!!!! kismet right? i purchased her immediately!  now, you would think this is the end of the tale, however.....it is not....i had morgan ups shipped to my apt, however ups would not leave packages as the building was always locked. so i decided since i worked days to have it sent to my work.  biggest mistake ever! the restaurant i was managing was a new build on campus in downtown madison, and when it was built there was a side street added for access, however, it was the same street name and address as a private residence on the west side of the city.  for FOUR months no delivery of the coolest doll in the world....FOUR MONTHS!!!! i had no idea what do do, i spent A LOT of money on this doll......well, after finally giving up all hope of ever getting my perfect doll, i got an email from the seller, somehow after those four months morgan had been marked return to sender...i guess we will never know where she had gone on her incredible journey...this time, i did it right, and had morgan delivered to my good friend mark herr's house, and let me tell you, she was well worth the wait!

WOW! It is the most special story about Barbie travel that I've heard! But you know, I've noticed that the more obstacles you have while achieving something great, the more pleasure it gives you later and the more meaningful it turns out to be. Your case is the best example. Morgan is very beautiful and her eyes look very touching.

I've experienced a little unusual story with my fav. Astrid, too. Initially, I ordered the Barbie Indonesia doll. But before I bought her I talked on the phone with the seller and by the way asked about Barbie 2007 (my future Astrid). I just wanted to know her price. But the seller understood it like I wanted to buy her, too. So, I received the parcel with Barbie Indonesia and Barbie 2007 (both new). When I saw Astrid in her box I totally forgot about the other doll. Of course, I couldn't send her back, although, it would have been possible. And even though, I didn't have the money for them both, I figured my way out to find it. It was my most spontaneous and precious purchase!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful story!

Kate

your story about astrid is great as well, sometimes we get things we didn't even know were meant for us until we receive them! ps, i forgot to post a picture...so here is my favorite doll ever morgan!

This is a great idea Kate! Your doll is very lovely. I can see why she is so precious to you.  It's funny how the dolls you didn't expect to like so much end up being your favorite.....

That is a wonderful story Andy! I am so glad that it worked out for you. Morgan is a beautiful doll. Your pictures of her show how much you love her

For me my Favorite dolls happen to be a couple Luke and Laura. When I get a new doll whether it is a boy or girl I usually like to find them someone special to spend their dolly days with. Sometimes that isn't right away it might take awhile for me to find one. I had bought Laura (Barbie basics 2.0 Model #4 first. She sat lonely for sometime. So in when the Pirates of the Carribean dolls came out and I saw others showing pics of their new cleaned up Captain Jack. I got excited and went out to buy my own.  Once I got him out of that pirate suit and into a pair of blue jeans and a T-shirt. Well...I fell in love. I then searched for a girl to along side him. This picture here is what made me fall in love with Luke and Laura.

And they have been my favorite couple since. I think I cherish them so much too. Because it reminds me of when I was a kid and my sister and I had a favorite dolly couple that all our doll stories revolved around.....

great story miranda! luke and laura are the perfect couple!!!

Great topic Barbiefantasies!!! I think for my favorite porcelain it would have to be the two I made to resemble my children when they were young!! Any redheaded doll for obvious reason ( I am a redhead)!! My favorite Silky is Dusk to Dawn, bought for me from my Mom!!

My ultimate favorite collection is my bikers whom I refer to as Log...

My Holy Grail that I feel I will never find is Style Mantra Eden (integrity) She would certainly become my Favorite when I find her someday!!! I Loved everyones pictures!! Miranda I agree with you all my dolls have families and partners/husbands etc...

My favorite thing to stare at is my Tnt dolls bothe vintage and repro takes me back to my childhood!!!

WOW, Miranda. That is very creative, by the way, that you always try to find a couple for your Barbie. I would have done the same if I had enough Ken dolls. Luke and Laura look great together! And I also like a lot this Ken. And Barbie basics, of course, is irreplaceable!

Hello, Lisa!

You've got a beautiful collection. They all look amazing and I hear for the first time in my life that someone even makes a biker collection out of their Barbies! That is so unusual! Your vintage Barbies look fantastic and love the color you chose to dress them! It's a wonderful thing when someone reminds you of your childhood. I also have (but only one doll - Sofia) that comes from my childhood. I played with her in early 1990s, when I was little. She is the oldest doll in my collection, but kind of precious, too!

Thanks for starting this discussion BarbieFantasies, I'm loving everyone's stories

My favourite doll is probably not what people expect as she is a 1970's Pedigree Sindy doll. For me she represents what I had known as a child from my girl friends who all played with Sindy and I was envious of!! She was one of the first dolls I bought when I started collecting Sindy's in 1999. When I got her she was a mess so I fixed her up and restyled her hair back into the authentic style (she looks like she needs another fix up looking at her today lol)

Although all the other Sindys are long ago sold and I have moved onto much more 'grown up' and sophisticated (not to mention expensive!) dolls I just cannot bear the thought of parting with this Sindy doll. i don't play with her or look at her that often but just 'knowing she is there' is enough. For me she represents a part of childhood I 'missed' out on and the beginning of my journey into the world of dolls.

Here's a pic of Sindy in her simple Mix n Match trouser and top ensemble

Hello, Simon!

Thank you for the comment and the touching picture of your favorite doll. She looks like new, by the way!

I think it's absolutely normal that you still feel attached to a doll that comes from your childhood years. Theses are usually the years we most treasure, right? So, this doll accompanied you through them.

This is the reason we started collecting - to return to the time we felt like children. Right? Our dolls change with time but the pleasure they give remains with us for ever.
