I love Silkstones, but I am just not getting the whole Russian theme on these. Of those pictured above, I would have to pick Lucy and Ricky as my favorites.

The Barbie in blue (Happy Birthday Ken) is pretty, but my dirty mind just thinks it weird - a dressed up Barbie as Ken's birthday present?

I think the Silkstones are quite interesting. Not exactly my cup of tea but a departure from the usual approach to the design. My fave would have to be Barbie in Blue. She's a cutie!

Okay, but here is my issue: The Silkstones are part of the "Fashion Model Collection" which means they should be fashionable, right? With the exception of the brunette in red, I can't imagine any of them strutting a runway! The one with the babushka on her head is almost comical! I'm sorry, but when I think high fashion, Russian folk dress just doesn't come to mind.

I actually think that those Russian silkstones are some of the best ones Mattel has produced. I love Russian and Balkan dresses and I wear dresses and blouses like that in real life also.

They are extremely detailed, far more than the usual Silkstones. They are just so authentic that I suppose to some they are more like 'dolls of the world'. The Japanese doll of the world for 2011 has similar styling of traditional dress. BTW I think she is gorgeous!

The Silkstone in the cossack style hat reminds me of one of my favourite ladies, the singer Kate Bush, in a recent publicity photo:
