I am sorry to say that I am running out of room for more Barbies in my home.  My husband can't keep up on the shelf making so I have decided to try my hand at rerooting.  I would like to take some of my "second hand" dolls that I have purchased at thrift stores and do a few makeovers.  My only problem is I have never tried any reroots just repaints and that did not turn out so well.  Does anyone have any tips on rerooting?

I want to reroot my Kissing and my Western Winking but I'm afraid I'm going to damage their mechanism... :( Cool videos!
I've done a lot of reroots but not using any of those methods and they all seem really hard to me. :D I'm using the needle and thread method, where you put the rerooting needle through from inside out, and then back into the same hole, thread a plug of hair into the loop and pull it inside the head. Repeat. Repeat repeat. I find rerooting really easy but time consuming. A LOT easier than repainting, like a million times easier! I've written a tutorial with pictures here: http://www.thebdoll.com/blog/barbie-tutorials/rerooting-barbie-chan...
Love you for that tutorial! Tnx!!
No worries. :)

Hi I've done lots of reroots I use the Knot method which I have always found esy and straightforward.
I run a website www.retrodolls.co.uk we sell rerooting kits for many dolls including Barbie.

Everyone finds their own way to do rerooting as you can see there are lots of different methods!

OMG! Amazing!!! Have you ever rerooted a Kissing Barbie or a Western Winking? I need to reroot mine but I'm scared that I'll distroy their mechanism. :(
Hi Ada I haven't - I've done Skipper, Midge, Barbie and Fluff all from aound the same era.
The main thing would be reoving their heads - I assume they both move - one to kiss the other to wink?
I think the kissing one would probbaly OK as it would be the rod on the neck that moved the head.
I'll investigate for you if you like see if I can find one taken apart to see.
Here's Skipper!

She's so pretty with the red hair. :X I did find a pic of the inside mechanism of Kissing on Flickr but I can't seem to find iit anymore... I'll be back when I finish looking for it.
Oo -thanks Ada - is her head soft?
It's funny but the head has no hair holes in it so this is a model??
It amy be difficult but I'd have to get my hands on her!

That's the inside of her head. This is how she really looks: http://www.retrotoys.com.ve/images/products/1337_KISSING_BARBIE.jpg She has a button on her lower back and when you pish it her lips and head mose as if she's kissing. That's why I'm afraid to take her head off. :-S I don't want to break her.
