 It was the Happy Family line that started it for me. Soon after that I had my own family so 2 kids later and a couple years down the line. I picked up collecting again. I mainly started with building dioramas and doll house for the dolls that I already had. Then I discovered on the internet that there were plenty of other people like me who still played with dolls. That is when my collecting really started to blossom. I discovered there were others dolls out there than just Barbie.  When we moved to a bigger house. My collecting grew immensely. That is also when I started collecting the dynamite girls.  So I have been maily into the 12" dolls I have no room for the larger ones. At this point in time I  mainly collect Barbie, Dynamite Girls, and Monster High, but I will be getting my first Fashion Royalty doll this spring! I used to go for quantity with my collecting but now I feel that is not what I want so I am trying to collect dolls that I can really connect with. I feel bad when I have a doll sitting there on the shelf for months that I cannot bring myself to play with. I feel like I am neglecting them. So I usually end up selling them so that they can find someone who will give them more attention. When I type that it sounds crazy but that is how I feel. I hope to one day have a room dedicated to my little dolly obsession and have a town full of all kinds of dioramas for my dolls. Here is the most recent pic of my doll space it looks a little different since I took this picture but this is where I go to relax and enjoy my little ones :)

I came back into doll collecting in a roundabout way like Lisa.

I started out in 1:12 dollhouse miniatures, and doing custom work on dollhouses for people who became customers, with my husband. Eventually I stumbled across the remarkable doll forums, but more importantly, dioramas - I think it was after my purchase of Learning to Cook Barbie which oddly spurred my collecting dolls again- especially fashion dolls. I was frustrated because there were no realistic props or chairs that were the proper height...and I wanted a challenge as I was somewhat bored with 1:12 scale. Now I collect Silkstone Barbie, as well as some playlines, Fashion Royalty, Sybarites, Ellowyne, and one of my favorites, reproduction french fashion dolls. As a child studying or reading everything I could acquire at the library I loved to try and replicate these astonishing dolls outfits for my dolls from books and pictures, my mother thought it was a good way to teach me to sew. lol...

I also collect bjd's....and have sold some dolls simply because of space and room needed...I sold all of my Gene dolls when I decided I wanted to go into a different direction with my collection and focus it mainly on what I love. I also have one Sybarite- Slipper and she is my holy grail doll; I fell in love when I saw the pictures of her online and also when my friend Susan Sirkis brought her doll from the event to show me , the details on her costume were so atelier perfect, I understood why they called these dolls pandoras.

At heart, I am still a builder and the dolls inspire my projects. I think I got bored with dollhouse miniatures in 1:12 scale simply because alot of clientst did not want dolls in their dollhouse! which for me makes it look alive instead of picture perfect. The great thing about the larger scales for me in the doll collecting world, especially 1:6 is the challenge to build it or create it, and the more detail, the more realism is involved. I am fortunate my husband loves my hobby as well.

My collection is quite eclectic but consists completely of modern fashion dolls. I know pretty much nothing about vintage dolls.

I collect Silkstones, Tiny Kitty, various 16" Tonner dolls, Gene Marshall, 22" Cissy, Fashion Royalty and other Integrity Toys dolls, Sybarite and assorted other resin BJDs. Somehow a bunch of Monster High dolls joined the crowd. They are the potato chips of my collection. I do have the odd Mattel Barbie here and there but I lose interest in them very fast.

Having a mixed collection like I do can be very confusing and time consuming, not to mention expensive. I do not have problems selling dolls that I don't love anymore. Sometimes I feel like selling an entire genre to simplify my hobby but it doesn't happen.

I love props and have lots of Ashton Drake Gene Marshall furniture, Tonner's Tyler furniture and many other lovely pieces that I use in my photography.

oh my doll, Terri!!I am your fan in FB, flickR and go visit your blog often for references and your opinion about the new dolls I simply adore your picture and your way to "see" dolls I am sure I will learn even more now
