Hi Dollobservers,

The theme for May is classic 'Monochrome', in all shades of black white and grey. Your dolls must be dressed for the theme or posed in a monochrome setting. Please note: photos turned into black and white by computer wizardry will not be accepted :)

Add your 'Monochrome' themed doll pics to this discussion using the 'image' icon on the far left of the discussion tool bar.

The 'rules' of the theme photo competition are very simple:

  • Your photo must contain a doll or dolls
  • Make sure the photo relates to the spirit of the relevant month's theme
  • Members should enter one photo only per theme (although you are free to add more but please highlight which particular photo you would like to go forward into the competition)
  • Make sure to have fun!

Remember the Prize now stands at a whopping $50!

Just had to jump on here and say what a fabulous job you all have been doing with these entries! I love them all! Great theme Simon, I'm really enjoying all the black and white, the contrast is fun!

whoa!! Mary-Beth this is so sexy yet dramatic her gorgeous red hair running like blood!! beautiful

beautiful photos!!

I am loving all the entries for the May theme.

I have an idea and hope to be able to get to it before the month is over.

I am really enjoying all the entries this month.

Here is my entry:

"Twice as Nice"

They say that an encounter with your doppelgänger is an ill omen. Perhaps even a portent of death. The idea of a "double walker" has been explored in many works of literature, theatre and cinema.  A recent example is the film "Black Swan", in which Natalie Portman's character sees her doppelgänger on several occasions, particularly when she is feeling insecure.

In my photo, we see two Barbie® dolls with the "Diva" face mold, both sharply dressed in black-and-white structured suits. They run into each other at the lobby of an elegant boutique hotel, and for a moment, they appraise each other.

superbe,  is it a real diorama? (photoshoped?) nicely done

Thanks Lilly! It's not a real diorama. I contemplated  doing a diorama, but I decided on using these dolls, which cannot stand on their own.  I don't like seeing the doll stands in the photos, so it had to be done with Photoshop.

Amazing photo, Jared. I like what you've done with the "mirror image" on the B/W suits, bags, and sunglasses on the dolls and also the way the photo is framed in the doorway-- cool effect!

it is very effective anyway! very dramatic !
