Oh Frances This would be so wonderful! if you can explain to me with the maximum of simplicity! I have a very un-structured brain ! I tried hundred time following the explanation in books, magazines without success! I had for a long time an amazing collection of..sample like a sleeve or just a back or half a front etc...
when you see the Aran I made for Sean this is what I love to do. most of it (because my Men are in need) I am not to much on more elaborate than this.
I found this web site
http://www.aransweatermarket.com/clan-aran-sweaters
whit all kind of gorgeous sweater I do love them all.
counting on the same kind of wool I found here (baby size wool) I mounted
(I do not even know if this term is correct hee hee) 40 stitches front and back
I know that for some models the count as to be even or not so I can go for the maximum at 43 (after it will loose the feet I love
I know everything you can see on Sean 's sweater but basically nothing else:)
so if one of them is inspiring you I can try to follow your "virtual-guidance"
if you have the patience
hug

Comment by Marilyn Allen on May 30, 2012 at 15:50 That might be a good idea! Sad to say, knitting is NOT a talent I have.
whoa Marilyn THANKS!!
I have learn how to knit quite a long time ago but know only the basic (very basic
) stitches and I cannot figure out the explanation I found here and there in catalog books of web sites. plus I have a very limited attention endurance. so counting is not my best skill . I have to draw and mark the number /kind of stitches to follow .
I have learned cable stitches a couple of years ago and dream about making an Aran sweater for my Irish guy since and believe me this is faaaaaaaaaar from the firs attempt

now that this one is finally done I will certainly keep on doing other as I find knitting quite relaxing. maybe I should start a business ??

Comment by Marilyn Allen on May 29, 2012 at 23:45 That is quite possibly THE BEST men's sweater I've seen anyone do in all these years! It fits beautifully. So often I men's sweaters that are too skimpy. This is gorgeous!
I am wildly impressed!
one of my men is Irish is name is Sean O'Farell and I wanted an Aran sweater for him. unfortunately my skill as knitter is quite limited and it took me a while to do something close anough to satisfie him :
up here you have the original Aran sweater for the O'farell clan each clan as its own pattern.
now this is what I came up to for Sean. of course it is fare from perfect but ...you got the idea! :)
That's excellent. You did a very neat job. Your dolls are lucky to have a real leather handbag.
