the fabric isn't jersey, just some stuff i got at the quilting store down the street, i like the "vintage" look of the pattern, so i wanted to make something kinda 50's inspired and simple.

yep Anne, lengthening the mini is a much easier way to do it!  I lengthen commercial patterns all the time! :-)

Andy- I have done a lot of trial and error work myself. Biker Barbie's pants were made from an extremely altered pattern and a lot of wasted leather. I do like patterns though (less waste).

Deborah- Yes that did make sense! I also had the brainstorm that I can just lengthen my min skirt pattern and add a vent in the back. That should be easy enough.

Pencil skirts are generally a 3 piece pattern.  Essentially the front is one rectangle that hits the side of the doll. (plus seam allowance) The back is two pieces that meet the front and then over lap in the back for the closure. The curve at the hips can be achieved by sewing the front to the sides following the lines of the doll.  Hmm did that make sense?

no pattern (i never use them) more of a trial and error guy...
