Comment by Kate Fosk on January 5, 2012 at 14:09 This set me off looking on amazon for doll's pattern books! Enjoy seeing your photos as always Lilly!
I've made this dress for Davina ( Emme from R.Tonner) last year with the help of Rosemarie Ionker's Book . this book teaches how to make/transform patterns for divers dolls size . after the dress was made (extensible black velvet and black silk veil for the sleeve) , I place the dress ornament (bought some years ago) hand sewn it in place, and glued (fabric glue) little glittering red stone on it.
this is the dress I' ve made for Kate (Tyler from R Tonner). it is in fact a simple straight skirt (extensible black velvet) and the sequined top is a sweater/dress ornament I bought on sale some years ago when a fabric store was closing (Fanny's Fabric). I still have some of those and usually the dress style/shape depends totally of the size/shape of this ornament.

if you google "simple barbie dress pattern" or "free barbie pattern"and you select image that will offer you many choice.
when you decide, let me know if I can help
dolly cheers
I agree with Andy, a simple pencil skirt. as well, if like try the socks.
it's fun and fot the skirt very easy.
buy a fancy pair in a cheap store . you use the top (elastic band)as belt for the skirt ,cut it the length you like and hem the base by hand
I know plenty of web site with free pattern some are easy I will post them here
Comment by andy sorensen on January 4, 2012 at 5:38 hey cathy! i recommend starting with something simple like a pencil skirt, also i recommend working with a very forgiving fabric such as jersey (t-shirt material). after you get used to it, take a look at some of early/vintage barbie clothes, like best buy era fashions, they are pretty easy to replicate as they are very simplistic, have fun, the more you try the easier it will get!
Comment by Cathy Runnels on January 4, 2012 at 4:41 I love that term "wrap & hope" it does add the kind of "luck filling"to it hee hee
I just place the explanation in my blog. do not hesitate to ask if you need any help. I am still on the basic of kimono, I this is my first attempt
certainly things will change (for the best I hope)in the next one
Dolly cheers
