We got a Barbie Dream house, and a lot of (naked) Barbies at a yard sale yesterday. In the lot were a Gabrielle from High School Musical, a Mary Kate Olsen, and a Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi doll. All three seem to wear Skipper sized outfits. We already…Read More

Comment by Michelle Barousse on January 7, 2012 at 20:49 Wonderful outfit. Did you machine or hand sew it? How are the pants when "she" sits down. I love the fit of my pattern standing but hate the slide down when sitting.
that scale for the shirt is so perfect!! !! excellent combination, very professional like suite + the soft side of the lavender color .

Comment by Anne Field on January 7, 2012 at 19:04 I was watching TV last night and the suit the detective was wearing was an odd combination but I really wanted to make it in doll scale. I didn't have any of the correct materials so I made a suit in lavender purple glitter fabric (with pieces from Simplicity 4702) and then the shirt underneath is from black cotton with white squares and I used a pattern from Simplicity 4719). I added the collar and lapels to the suit jacket and tailored everything because it was far to loose and sloppy looking. For her photo shoot my model (who does not yet have a name!) wore shoes and carried a purse from one of the Barbie basics set.
I still have hundred of patterns and was using them more or less like this, part for the top, part for the sleeve, and often as .".I can" for the skirt.
I sold them in this time, (you can still see them on my blog http://domidoll.blogspot.com/ on the first entries)
I did have the idea in my mind and was going with my ability, some time it was not at all the result, but until it pleased me that was ok and I had good surprises. but how many did I through away :)
Comment by Anne Field on January 6, 2012 at 21:18 I finally found the CD that has my OOAK doll photos on it. I have only done a few so far. Here is a pic of my pink bride. I started with a couple of vintage pattern pieces from the McCall's 9663 (for the bodice) but that needed a lot of custimization to fit the doll as it is the new body style. The shirt was I believe from the McCall's M6232 from one of the dresses but I am not totally sure on that. The design was all out of my head and sort of create as you go. She was the first OOAK Barbie I have done (as an adult) and I really like how she came out!
you are welcome Deborah, I just received it this morning.
glad I can help
Comment by Deborah Steinmetz on January 6, 2012 at 13:36 Lily, thank you so much for sharing that great website! Loads of wonderful tips! :-)
until it "dress"the doll, it count here
you can even send a pic if this involves only paper/feather and glue ...and your Vegas showgirl is so gorgeous!!
Comment by Anne Field on January 6, 2012 at 12:14 I will have to start keeping track of the pattern pieces I use. I have a few commercial patterns but when I am creating a doll I usually will think about what I want to make and then take pieces from different patterns and work on it until they all fit together. And then I make up the rest.
My profile pic is my Vegas showgirl I made. I don't think there was any sewing involved with her though so I don't think she counts
Comment by Kate Fosk on January 6, 2012 at 10:38 Hi Anne, look forward to seeing wht you are making! My 'use a pattern' approach took a blow this week as I found only ten minutes to get ready for first craft group of the year and had to dive in cupboard and grab what I could find. Now making wrap skirt for a high school musical doll out of old top.
