I do like melancholy, I have a painting in my bedroom called "Melancholia." It's just that I don't usually do melancholy photo shoots, because I am always happy when I am taking doll pictures!  :) Her hair does appear tear-like, perhaps I shall try a "Melancholia" shoot around my "little goth girl" doll, Mariposa!

Mary Beth, I don't think melancholy is a bad thing at all. I think it came across for me because of the 3 thin lines coming off her right eye...it almost appears like her eye make-up has run as if she'd been crying.  Maybe mourning a lost love.  Personally I'm a sucker for a sad face! :-)   I can see how her face is suggestible...I imagine she is a fun doll to shoot.

It screams melancholy? Oh, dear! That isn't what I intended, but the reason why that doll is my favorite is because she has such a suggestible face. Sometimes I could swear her expression changes to fit whatever mood I'm in!

What a gorgeous image and a serendipitous capture too!  It almost looks as though she is sad and crying. (although I think it might be a few stray hairs.) This image just screams melancholy!
