OMG! I totally did not know that! I'll call it "the Japanese flute" from now on, so there won't be any embarrassing mis-understandings!! ((blush))

Shakuhachi is also slang for a blow job, in case you didn't know. ( Yes, I do speak Japanese - or did)

Mary Beth thank to you for sharing

I discover the traditional Japanese music with  this "Ensemble Nipponia" on youtube. it's so gentle and soft, I have one Japanese doll named Yoko, who arrived here some time ago, but I didn't play with her yet as she arrived naked and I still have to do for her a couple of kimonos.I already have ideas and fabrics

I will start this after my kids/kiddlets visit (they arrive on the 18th )

Edo Lullabye is the name of a track off of my favorite Japanese music cd.  I liked it so much it inspired one of my better poems:

First, the Koto, percussion

like a waterfall

into a woodland pool

The Biwa is the rustle

of bamboo

Shamisen insects whine

in the early dusk

Bells echo from a far-off

temple

The Shakuhachi starts in low

Bathing you in cold,

clear water

A pale image flickers

in the mist

A lithe, white body

A dark sheath

of shining hair

Never completely revealed

The flute song rises, slowly

reaching a high, plaintive cry

Like an enchanted bird's

final lament

An echoing response

chokes in your throat

As the sound slips away

The insects, the bamboo

until all that is left

is the waterfall

which ends,

as suddenly as it began

("Edo Lullabye"  was recorded by the traditional Japanese group "Ensemble Nipponia"

The Koto is a large zither capable of rapid changes in tuning, played primarily with a plectra worn on the right hand, with the left hand used to produce vibrato and a large range of effects using stopped strings. The shamisen is a three stringed instrument whose closest western relative is the banjo. The shakuhachi is a simple vertical flute which resembles in sound the Native American wood flute and the Irish pan pipe. The biwa is a Japanese  lute.)

Hubby and I during our "peregrinations" had the opportunity to love lot of places in US and Tennessee was one of them. how lucky you are, here in Spain, my dream would be to have a river or a pond in my back yard too  but right now it is quite burnt by the sun, still I enjoy the surrounding and rivers are not too fare away

For some reason, the link didn't work. Tell me the name of the video and I'll try to find it using Search.

I live on a farm, and there is a very large natural pond in the middle of it. These pictures were taken literally in my back yard! Tennessee is a very beautiful place to grow up, particularly on a farm.
