sliding affections...

I have a lot of Barbies, maybe around 100 but I find myself favoring the Gene, Tyler etc.. dolls so much more. It could be that they are so much easier to sew for.

There is a grace and beauty to the gene/tyler dolls that as cute as Barbie can be , she just doesn't compare.  Not that I'm sending my Barbie's down the pike but they all remain downstairs while Gene and her wardrobe are upstairs for anyone to view and enjoy.  Seeing them there inspires me to make more clothes and keep saving for that all important Trent to stand at their side.

One thing about the Barbies is that though I have no origionals (except 1 Ken and 1 Alan) the ones I do have are not going to be produced anymore.  Therefore, they remain valuable in a semi-monetary sense but to me my Gene's are the cream of the crop!

I know what you mean about the 16/17" dolls. I think once you have made the step it is difficult to go back to Barbie size. I have started to dabble with Fashion Royalty but for posing and photographing you really can't beat the larger gals :)

I had  Barbies that I bought, then dress then sell as One of A kind I did quite good for several years and was even asked to make the dress  for  the Barbie club of alberta (Canada) , but then Gene apeared and I fall in love, I bought one (simply Gene) I was not to found of the heavy makeup and asked a good friend (Glen Mielke) to repaint her, she became Marie (you can see her today in her new dress) then later on Tyler enter my life...and I never could go back to Barbie as much. I still love Barbie and the Fashionista are fantastic but still today I am just passionate about 16"doll I have now in "My Gang"30+ 16 "dolls males /females all ethnic, I sew and play a lot with them all.
