Just a shell

Barbie is beautiful, of that I think most of us can agree. The dolls that are modeled in either her image or just to be dolls follow suit in the beautiful category as I imagine no one would want to buy an "ugly doll".

Quite frankly even the Monster High dolls are on the beautiful side. So, I began to wonder where my niche was. It's not that I don't love dolls right along with the rest of you, however, All of these dolls are already made. In my minds eye there is no imagination as to the personality or facial expressions that accompany them. 

I could, I suppose, learn how to alter these dolls, and I know that takes huge amounts of money that I don't have. I have a solution that seems to fit my needs and my imagination. To some it's plain, but for me it adds a bit of depth to the scene.

The wooden doll/mannequin is nothing but a shell, but it leads to so much more. One has to imagine what might be taking place. I can sculpt the scene, and I will, yet the onlooker or observer must take it a step further and imagine what might be taking place. Is there an argument, or is this a gentle conversation. It's all in perception, there are no right answers, and this is a form of art in a sense, open ended and allowing for both myself and the observer, to leave feeling satisfied and possibly mystified if I choose.  

There are possibilities with the shell, beyond even what I have seen thus far, I hope that it doesn't seem too plain.

this is a wonderful idea! and with all the customizing that is going on there are so many more interesting dolls that were once the same as millions. i use polymer to create or alter dolls, mabey try some polymer on the wodden mannequins!! that might be fun!! again, i love your idea thanks for sharing:)

I can completely appreciate how you view dolls.  Even though Barbie and FR dolls are already made, I too view them as shells that can be dressed up and accessorized to be who I want them to be.  I view my dolls as mannequins that can be used the way miniature mannequins were in the 50's for the Theatre de la Mode era.

I think what you are saying  and doing is exactly what the wooden Mannequins are intended for. Most artist use them for paintings or sculpture, but in  your case you are using the Mannequin as the art.
