I bought a bunch of 90's Barbies at a thrift store for kids to play with, but I did not try to wash and comb the tangled hair. If you even touch the hair it will tangle at once, and brushing it and combing it will cause damage and hair lose. So one of them I decided to comb out when wet and it really messed up my hand. The plastic brush got bent and my hand is killing me from trying to do that. The other dolls I am not even going to try to untangle because I will only ruin my hands and as soon as kids start to play them the hair will re tangle.

That is what happened, people did not like the "greasy hair", so they made this stuff that is very dry and thin and light. Thanks for pin pointing the date of that, then you can kind of work your way back, it seems like when they redesigned the barbie body in a way, I did not like, they got hair that can be combed without damage to it.  But, that is still a huge clunk of time in which Barbie had bad hair, and then those awful bent arms that won't straighten.

Yeah I have found that too, they seemed to change the hair in 1988/89 to horrible fibre
