blythe fan club in the san francisco bay area

I went to a Blythe fan club meeting today in san Francisco. You can find them on the meet up site if you want to come. I don't have any blythe dolls, but I saw at least three I wanted, but some of those had customized options, that would make them even more expensive. They are good quality solid dolls. I am more addicted to buying misfit clones on ebay, because I can get a fix for only a few dollars. When the dolls cost more than 100 dollars, that means I can only have one of two. The size of blythe's head would create a storage problem. I already have a storage problem as it is. In summary I would collect them if I could get them for five dollars in spite of the storage problem any new dolls would create. I liked the colored hairs ones in particular Mango (orange hair) 100 dollars on ebay and Amaryllis (green hair) 300 on ebay. There is a new white haired called Vanilla 100 dollars that pairs with a brown hair called Chocolate. Vanilla has nice looking skin, but not a nice as the Amaryllis I saw which had a translucent costume face plate, which would make her even more expensive, then add the handmade custom. I have not seen such lovely skin color before other then my Suki Suki Sailor Moon dolls. The BJD that are made of resin have a dead white skin color. I think the plastic of Blythe is much more attractive, but these dolls are all out of my price range.

The situation with Kenner Blythes is just the same as with any other fashionable vintage curiosity. If Blythe wasn't a star, Kenners won't sell even at 100$. Gina Garan said that before all that Blythe craze vintage Blythes sold much, much cheaper.

Restoring a vintage Blythe is a tricky thing but owners say that's worth it.

Anyway, the latest months brought more affordable Blythes to the market. I'm still worrying I haven't bought Blythe Saffy Encore when she cost ~70$! (Now it's about 150$).

That's true, they don't look good standing next to Barbie. They look good in their own settings or with other Blythe's. It's something to keep in mind, there are deals out there, but a lot of ridiculous prices on ebay. There are bunch of 70's Blythe with major hair damage. It's the white hair, that did not stand the test of time, that are trying to sell for 500 or 700 dollars. Mainly I think the owners want to unload the damaged ones to buy better condition ones for themselves. The petite blythes are reasonable, but the eyes don't change.

Blythe's price was the main reason not to buy this doll, for the first time. But then I met my friend's STA and fell in love. I bought Mod Molly, a French Trench then, and a Miss Sally Rice (she is now sold). The main difficulty with Blythes is not even the storage - they demand your attention all the time and they don't make friends easily with other dolls.
