Social Networking for Fashion Doll Lovers
Over the next couple of days I am very pleased to be taking part, along with four other fellow bloggers, in a celebration of 25 years of the Holiday Barbie series. I will be focusing on the dolls released from 1993 to 1997 (be sure to check out MomDot for the years 1988-1992). As an extra special treat I will also be giving a little hint as to what to expect for the 2013 Holiday Barbie set to be released on 1st August.
So without further ado lets celebrate Christmas in July… Barbie style!
Ever since 1988 girls and collectors alike have been looking forward to this very special Christmas tradition. In fact many consider the first Holiday Barbie as the very first of the Collector Barbie dolls. The dolls proved so popular that they quickly sold out, thereby causing many a frantic parent no doubt! Now 25 years later they have become one of the longest running doll series ever.
In 1993 Barbie was stepping out in a red tulle gown with golden bodice accented by several red sequinned and bead poinsettias. To round off the look she also sported a poinsettia in amongst her golden locks!
In 1994 Barbie went for gold in this stunning white (faux) fur-trimmed gown. Look closely at her bodice, hair and earrings to spy the festive holly and cute red berry accents.
In 1995 Barbie went all out for holly in this holly print green gown with lace underskirt. As with 1993 Holiday Barbie, there are poinsettia accents aplenty to commemorate the season.
I hope you have enjoyed our look back at Holiday Barbies from the 1990s. Be sure to check back tomorrow for 1996 and 1997 as well as the hint as what is in store for Holiday Barbie 2013!
On August 1st, head to Walmart.com to purchase the limited edition 2013 Holiday Barbie, complete with a exclusive ornament. As a holiday treat to you, the first 1,500 purchasers of the 2013 Holiday Barbie on Walmart.com will receive a $10 Walmart gift card!
