Welcome to our second look at the Holiday Barbie series of dolls that are celebrating their 25th anniversary as a collectors’ festive favourite. Yesterday we covered the dolls for years 1993-1995, so yes you guessed it, today we will be looking at the remaining 2 years, plus a tantalising hint of what to expect from Holiday Barbie 2013.
In 1996 Barbie was snug and warm in a cosy burgundy velvet coat, trimmed at the collar and cuffs with white (faux) fur. Matching white fur muff and hat finish off the look. Underneath her coat Barbie wore a multi tiered golden skirt.
For 1997 Barbie took a rather regal turn in a ruby red and gold trimmed gown, complete with a gold and ruby encrusted tiara. The look was finished off with matching gold and ruby choker and earrings.
Fun Fact: in 1997 the blond version of Holiday Barbie was only made available to members of the Official Barbie Collector’s Club!
Hint #2: The 2013 Holiday Barbie wears snowflake-inspired silvery earrings calling to mind a wintry world of silvery snowflakes.
So that completes my look at the years 1993-1996 of Holiday Barbie glamour. I hope you have enjoyed it and found yourself filled with a little festive spirit from our sparkly spec of Christmas in July. Be sure to checkout the Classy Mommy blog tomorrow (26th August) for the next 5 years. If you missed the first five years in the series, be sure to check out MomDot.
