Yes, I am a newbie. A little bit about me.

Hello all,

My name is Chris. I am almost 35 years old, and from Houston Texas. I found this site when I googled Houston Dolls Shows. I was very glad to see that a site like this exists. I have been interested in dolls ever since I was a little boy. Even though back then, it was not proper for a boy to want a Barbie doll. In fact, I never owned one until I was an adult. I still don't own that many. So, I guess I am not as hard core as a lot of you. lol.

I am a former BJD owner. At one time I had two SD size dolls. But, financial difficulties came up, and I was forced to sell them. I would love to buy another one, but I don't think I have the time or space (or money really) to treat one how they needed to be treated. In the couple years that I had my BJDs I learned that there was always some project to be done, some new outfit to get, and something new to make for them. So, for now, I am glad i dont have one.

I do have a customized Neo Blythe (Originally a Saffy), but even her, I don't devote the time that I should. I suppose with my Blythe doll, the fun of her, was the customization. I changed out her hair, and eye chips. Sand matted her, and repainted her face. Once I was finished, I had a lovely display piece, but I didn't want to play with her. I would love to get another Blythe just to customize. lol

Oh, I do also have a Hujoo Berry doll that I repainted, and customized. Can you tell I like the customization process? lol Since she was completed, she doesn't get a lot of play either. Good thing she can share clothes with my Blythe doll.

In my personal life, I have recently gone through a vintage phase. This last winter I dressed mostly in vintage clothes, or vintage styling. This has carried over now into my current phase of doll collecting.

I was a Toys R Us the other day and saw the "My Favorite Ken Doll." I just fell in love with his vintage looks. Since getting him, I have been cruising eBay looking for vintage clothes for him. have decided I want to get him as many of the pre-1968 outfits I can. I am not much interested in the Mod Era or newer, but the Vintage Era to me is SO cute.

Being a gay man myself, I have decided my Ken needs a boyfriend. So I got him a Vintage reproduction Allan doll (I know, I am sure Mattel never thought that they would be THAT good of friends! lol).

I don't know if I really want to get any actual vintage boy dolls. A lot of them that I have found are either, if in good condition, more expensive than I would want to pay (seeing as how I do want to play dress up with them) or need a lot of restoration work. And right now, I am not setup to do that.

So, that is about all I have to say about myself at the moment. I look forward to chatting with as many of you as I can. Thank you so much for reading this.

Dolly hugs,

Chris

Hi Chris! I`m with Simon when he says the important matter is the love you have for dolls.  I`m from Argentina, a little far from many of you.  My English is many times, not so good to make a good conversation, but I`m always looking for the oportunity to learn more.

I have found here a beautiful place to share my oppinions and thoughts, adorable people who share us this place, I hope you feel very welcomed.

I´m very eclectic (not sure if it´s well expressed this word) I´m actually focusing my collection on argentinian items, they´re so rare but not nice quality.  Just for fun and "for the science" of collecting Barbie (as I call it).  But I love vinty dolls, not much to find here, and all kind of dolls.  I have a NeoBlythe, and planning to find my first Pullip.  Nice to hear from you! blessings

Hi Chris, gr8 letter and since you are now a fan of the vintage Hurray Welcome, I love the vintage Barbie/Ken line and have a vast vintage collection that is for display but, some vintage I keep for play. At one time I had for the most part every vintage outfit Mattel had made for Barbie, Ken and his "special" friend Alan and Midge. Never did get the Easter Parade or Roman Holiday. However, as life goes due to medical I was without income for two years so Barbie saved my home. Now I am in the process of replacing what I once had and since the prices are way down it is easier to buy but, my income is also way down. I have 4 Fashion Royalty dolls that I dress in vintage Barbie and they carry it off. Dressmaker Details look gr8 on the vintage Barbie. Nice to find someone to share these tales with even though you are in Texas would be nice to find another guy here in St. Louis to trade tales with. Thanks for reading. Enjoy your day and welcome to the group. Hope to chat more with you.

Hi Chis,

Thanks for the hello and wonderful introduction. To me it doesn't matter how many dolls you have, just the love and fascination for them makes you a 'doll observer'! Glad you chose this community to join and hope you enjoy finding your way around. We're a friendly lot and I'm sure you will be made very welcome :)

Dolly hugs,

Simon
